First, I'd heard of him and that's a bit upsetting.
People like this didn't get enough widespread public recognition, without Spielberg most of us wouldn't know who Schindler was either.

I loved the part on the video, when the audience was asked to stand up if they were alive because of Nicholas Winton, everyone stood.

There was an article about him in the NY Times within the last year or so.
I knew about Schindler before the movie, because I had read the book. Seems to me the book did quite well, but I could be having a brain far+ about that. Another good book that generated a movie was "The Last Jews in Berlin". Jürgen Prochnow was in the movie, can't remember what it was called.
