the Cloud

I always back up my iDevices to my computer, but I have a friend who only backs up to the cloud and is asking advice. If she backs up everything to the cloud, can she restore to a new device and have the exact same setup on the new device?

My opinion is that relying on only the cloud pretty much guarantees that the data will be lost.

Being able to restore to a new device requires that it be similar hardware and be running almost the same OS. If they have an iPhone 4 and running iOS 7, don't expect that everything can be restored to a 6S running iOS 11.

See? It DOES NOT just work, and, yes, Apple does make junk. This stuff is not simple nor secure.

kate,

In theory, yes. You can restore to a new iDevice from a backup to the cloud, but only what was backed up.
