8K matures at CES
#1
"In 2020, 4K will be passe. The 2020 Tokyo Olympics will be broadcast in the 8K resolution, which is four times deeper than 4K."

Mmmmmm, I'm sick of looking at nose hair, so I'm not sure this is a positive for anything but nature and scenery, and CGI.

And anybody over 35 won't be able to tell the difference between 4K & 8K.

2020 is the earliest I plan to look at buying a 4K HDTV to replace my 50" (1080p) Panasonic plasma set.

8K is not mature until there is a "single" GPU solution that can run games on it. At least the HDMI specification got updated.

How much better does PQ need to get? I'm still quite happy with my 55" 1080p 240Hz refresh, hope it last a long time.

It's not the number of pixels, but the SIZE that matters...

You would have enjoyed my 42" plasma - 640x480.

Heh, so just a bit larger than .05" x .05" per pixel I figure, not accounting for pixel pitch. Versus what, .017" for HD? .008" for 4K?

I spent years using the original commercial plasma screen - 512 x 512 glorious orange pixels on an 8 inch flat black touch screen called PLATO.

8k? I can distinguish between 1080p and 4k but I doubt visual acuity will allow most people to discern 4k from 8k.
