I don't get it.
My take on it is there is an impending crash approaching, and he is staying in the danger zone because of the sign.

He has to keep seated because the sign says so (even if a car is barreling out of control straight toward him)... Edit: Fill beat me to it!

Here's one from the 80s New Yorker I just laugh out loud too when I see it. Everyone else thinks I'm nuts:

I don't get it.
My take on it is there is an impending crash approaching, and he is staying in the danger zone because of the sign.
I don't see any cars or any indication that there is one coming, but maybe this was during the week of the HUGE crash where a car flipped into the crowd and killed many people back in the 50s (or was it 60s)
