The usual museums and stuff have been scheduled. Going to try and rent a wetsuit so he can try snorkeling or perhaps surfing. Suggestions welcome.
Heading to San Diego for a Week. Stuff to do with a teen?

For snorkeling, I recommend starting at La Jolla Shores and heading South towards the Seven Caves (but don't actually enter them, unless conditions are calm - if you're in there when a wave comes in, it'll be like being inside a jagged washing machine) - try to go at low tide to increase the chances of seeing aquatic denizens.
Getting a kayak from one of the nearby rental shops would make the trek a bit easier - or you can walk along the base of the cliffs towards the caves. Unfortunately, you're probably a bit late to see the Leopard Sharks - but maybe there'll be some stragglers.

Enjoy the water and storefronts at Ocean Beach for a day - wetsuit not necessarily required. Wrap up at sunset with appetizers and beverages at the Wonderland Ocean Pub.

I used to enjoy hanging out with and watching the hang gliders from the cliffs above Blacks Beach. I have no idea if this area is still open to the public... a beautiful place to picnic.
