How can a sub-Reddit ban me for this?

Reddit has a hard time rising above frivolity since the barriers to posting and responding are so low. Same with Facebook Groups.

I find them both very frustrating for any useful purpose. There really is no substitute for the moderated forum format, like this one.

Reddit IS a moderated forum - that's the basis for the conversation in this thread.

Reddit is huge and diverse.

Some subs are not unlike this phorum.

Some are strict, some are loose, some are pornographic.
