Recycle an Apple 21 inch Sony CRT with other electronics?

Damn, I'd be tempted to take it but I'm probably too far away. Its definitely old enough to be charming.

Yeah, I had to pay 35 bones to get rid of my last one, so if you can sell it for 5.00, you're doing well. If you can get more, sweet!

Low hours, beautiful picture.

My last CRT.

Have an attractive 23 year old Apple Monitor that takes up a lot of room with my old G5. Received this as a gift from my old boss saving it from the electronics dumpster. I am turning in 2 RCA 32 inch CRT televisions and some beige 17 inch CRT monitors all for no charge. Thought the “tripod” studio monitor was beautiful. Should I put it in the pile or try to find it a home locally. I feel guilty dumping it and see them on eBay. Too heavy to ship.

Those things are beasts. I had to take my 75-lb. 20" MultipleScan to recycling after it developed problems that were not worth fixing. It was 14 years old and the plastic was brittle. The Other Human got that thing down the stairs and out to the street where we got it into a cab and I took it to e-recycling, in front of Tekserve.

If you really want to get rid of it, put it in front of the house with a sign that asks for $50. Someone is bound to steal it.

Gahhh! That's the one that I should have held onto. I still have G4's and G5's that can use that monitor. I may even still have a spare acrylic base for that one (the bases have a tendency to break).

Apple did a dumb thing or two with their 20" CRT monitor, the main thing being the hard-wired video cable. If/when that crapped out, you couldn't just use a different cable. IIRC that was what caused mine to be recycled.

They did a similar thing with the OG HomePod.

The cable is fairly difficult to remove and replace, but it's doable (I haven't tried).

I've read it's not user removable on the new HomePods, I don't know about the miniPods.

Some places do this because it's cheaper than using sockets, etc.

I've come to think it's Apple being Apple beyond 'Apple tax'.

I've got too many CRT's in da house.

A 15" Sony Trinitron display, a 23" (?) La Cie electron III, 12", 25", and 32" Trinitron TVs.

That $50 sign ploy has some merit.
