hal, it is precisely that -- "an explanation of sorts" -- it doesn't REALLY explain things, but it does give a clue, and a possible explanation... at least, the most reasonable explanation we have so far.

I almost wish I hadn't started watching, and would just wait until the end to buy all the DVD's to watch at once.

This instead hanging by a string after every episode.

Although I would miss out on a good bit of discussion here on the forum if I did that.

Yeah, I have to say -- it is pretty addictive, and some of the writing has been very clever. Last night's episode -- particularly the teaser (beginning part) was extremely well done, I thought...
