Okay, Elmo's no angel or anything, but he's not totally wrong. Since the operating system isn't tied to a registration number, it would be impossible for Apple to supply replacement media on demand when disks are lost or destroyed. For every honest customer, there would be two people trying to get over and acquire an extra copy for resale.

That said, it wouldn't stop me from giving Apple a call and telling them a tale of woe. Just understand if you're turned down. The alternative (serious, locked-in registration of the operating system) would be a real drag from every Mac user's standpoint.

I got replacement media last year for my OS 9 disk (I forget the circumstances, really!). It came with a weird, kind of dead-white quarantined surface and boldly labeled "Not for Resale." But they're probably more forgiving when it's an old system.

I'd call Apple anyway. It can't hurt. Why would anyone call them for Tiger when they could just borrow their friends or download it from the net? I think they may want to make their customer happy.

Thank you!. I usually have all my software together - especially my OS discs, backup - etc. Elmo's no angel - he's an annoyance. My post was for fun - somethien elmo and a couple others here don't quite grasp. They feed on others to mak themselves feel worthy - I supposed - although - well, who cares. Elmo wants attention and I'm not giving him anymore of it.
