iBook-thanks! Need Airport help, though

I went to Wireless Security under Internet Connect and chose none rather than WPA2... couldn't get onto the network with the Mini that way! I went back to WPA and it accepted my password on the Mini(phew, I can imagine losing connection completely). Did I do that correctly?

Thanks,
Skye

Yep, with security set to 'none' I get the error 'there was an error joining _name of network_ network'. What is up with that?

Nathan says the original AP card can do WPA but not WPA2:

You have your mini configured to connect a certain way- if you make changes you'll have to change the mini's settings too.

I think rGg's your best bet as I have never had an AE and don't know the interface.

Need more specific info-- are you referring to the mini or to the iBook now?

Sorry, I mean the Mini can't seem to connect with security set to 'none'.

But was the iBook able to connect with security set to "none"?

Nope, just tried it with the iBook... no dice. But, the Mini is back on WPA in order to get online at all-haven't tried with both on none because then the Mini's offline.

Sorry---didn't read the whole thread---but shoot me if it has been said.

On those older Airport Cards and those iBooks sometimes you had to enter the $ sign before the first character in the WEP encryption for the internal Airport card.

Details RFD, details! Big Grin

What model iBook?

What OS version?

All of my iBooks (Early 2004 G4s with Airport Extreme) had no problems connecting to a WPA2 wireless 802.11g network once the OS was updated to at least 10.3.9
