so, in a normal curve, 50% are below the mean....84% are below 1 standard deviation above the mean..so, i'm thinking like 60% of people...

remember, most people aren't that smart...and they have the same voting power as everyone else..

Maybe not since about 33% will have voted before election day. That tells me they made up their mind early and those folks usually aren't affected by 30-second spots.

people who vote before election day have as much chance to see months of TV ads as those who wait. typically they have circumstances that require an absentee ballot.

who changes their mind a week before the election? are there really that many wafflers?

1. changing one's mind assumes that mind had already made a choice.
When the choices are Sucky Candidate 1 and Sucky Candidate 2, or, Liar 1 and Liar2 , there isn't really much of a choice to make.
Not much of a difference than choosing between Miller Lite and Bud Lite this time around.

Additionally, I'm in a position in which my presidential vote doesn't really count.
I am honestly undecided in who I will vote for-- I'm up to 3 possibilities now.

I am frequently swayed negatively by an ad, for example a political attack ad, against whoever is responsible for it. But the same goes for non-political ads-- I feel less positively about Apple on the heels of the "I'm a Mac" ads for example-- the Mac guy is smug and superior and I end up wanting to go to bat for the PC guy.

The ad folks are not fools. Advertising is a well-honed science. They aim at your sub-consciousness. If they can plant a favorable feeling deep into the reptilian part of your brain, mission accomplished. That's why bad jingles and sheer volume are effective. Its all about branding.

I once had three young guys who worked for Nike in the back of my taxi heading downtown from the airport. I had to listen to them blabber for 20 minutes - 20 minutes of total pseudo-intellectual drivel about selling sneakers. By the end of the trip it was all I could do to stop myself from turning around and screaming, "You're fricken' shoe salesmen, not scholars - GET OVER IT!".

I'm actually most afraid of some of the voters of this country. I read an article in the local paper yesterday in which some guy said he was going to vote for McCain, because he didn't think Obama wanted us out of Iraq. Um, that's kind of bass akwards from my interpretation of what they've been saying.

But on the subject of ads... I must be a big disappointment to many advertising people. Every once in a while an ad attracts my attention for some reason, but I wind up remembering the ad itself but not the product. Overall I'd say that's a sign I'm not easily swayed. McCain's vicious political ads might be the exception, but my response is the opposite of what they're hoping for, I'm sure. Once again yesterday one of his ads came on in the evening, in which he was linking Obama and Jeremiah Wright. Every time I hear one of those, it just confirms my belief that my vote for Obama was the right thing for me to do.
