Kruschev Prophesy? is it coming or already here?
#11
I'm not [quite] old enough to have been around at the time, but the story gets referenced quite often. It always amused me that the tenants of Communism would make claims of it destroying nations.

I do fear we are regressing back to the 50ies when some believed blindly what they were told to believe.

The Right Wing
A play

Act II, scene 1.

Setup: It is a dark and stormy night. There is a rampart, and two people are watching o’er the rampart. A short man wearing a grey flannel suit and a homburg hat approaches.

JOHN BIRCH. Hail, o hail Horatio!
MAN. My name is not Horatio. It’s Bill.
JOHN BIRCH. Well, Bill then. Did you watch o’er the rampart?
BILL. Yes, o’er the rampart we watched.
JOHN BIRCH. And what did you see at the twilight’s last gleaming?
BILL. Creeping Communism. Slithering Socialism, a couple of Reds under the bed, three fellow travelers traveling, two Bolshies leaping and a pinko in a union hall.
JOHN BIRCH. Joe would be so proud.
WOMAN (behind Bill, also watching o’er the ramparts) Joe? Joe the Plumber?
JOHN BIRCH. McCarthy. Great guy. Gawd he was fun when he’d had a few. Wait—say, you look familiar.
WOMAN (coquettishly). Well, I should.
JOHN BIRCH. Naw, it can’t be. The Council on Foreign Affairs? 1956? Drank Singapore Slings till you found out they were pink?
WOMAN. That’s me!
JOHN BIRCH and the WOMAN exit stage left. JOHN BIRCH can be heard sweetly singing songs from “John Philip Sousa’s Greatest Love Marches.” BILL keeps his lonely watch o’er the rampart.

That's an old John Birch Society sales pitch.

I remember when Birch tracts were handed out. I'm old.

Gimme that old time McCarthyism.

New World Order from the 50s.

I think those are pretty straight answers:
A. It never happened
B. Barack Obama is not a Communist

I have no idea what you expected as an answer. Some sort of last minute revelation that we Obama supporters are all of us card-carrying Commies hiding microfilm in pumpkins when we are not banging shoes on the table?

EDIT: Whoops, I got confused for a minute there. The card-carrying Anti-Commies used pumpkins. I apologize for the error!-

"Get us out of the UN"

Hand painted signs along Hwy 99 between Fresno and Bakersfield.

Still there.

Agreed. I find the whole story to be completely incoherent unless you see Communists as being bent on destroying everything in their path while meaning to do just the opposite.

I've spent enough time on this. my head hurts.

While I don't see Democrats parading around as Communists, I have noticed that our liberties and freedoms have been slowly eroding over the years. And always in the name of the "greater good" or "protecting our children."

From weapons to smoking to drinking to driving, government and regulation grows increasingly larger and pervasive/invasive.

Why did you leave out warrantless wiretapping, stripping detainees of the right to habeas corpus, data-mining of phone records, or allowing torture? Whoops, that's right, those are Republican accomplishments. And we all know that being allowed to smoke is a lot more important than being allowed one's constitutional rights.
