One of our friends needed an iMac upgrade awhile back, and also wanted the superdrive, but I talked him into a refurb 2013 and gave him an external SD that has worked out well. Wife may be able to adapt to external SD, as it opens up lots of possibilities for her. Good luck.

Not sure why superdrive has to be a deal breaker, external optical drives are $20...
By watches DVDs -- as opposed to say, HBO go, or netflix, or DIrectTV now, Amazon, etc? DVD content isnt online?
Seems like a lot of mac for what shes doing? 27" i7? And all the storage?
Does she want/need the big screen?

That video card isn't going to be great for gaming... I'd suggest a newer iMac and either rip all her DVDs ahead of time or get an external. You could even use 3M strips and attach it to the side if necessary.

Trust me.
At the moment the internal SuperDrive is a deal breaker. My wife will get this one and her old one will replace my Mothers dead 24 inch iMac.

Sounds like the deal is done then?
What is she using now? Minecraft isnt really "gaming" so not a big deal on video card. 8 GB and a SSD can be pretty quick. I swear my 2010 iMac with SSD feels as snappy as my 2014 iMac with Fusion.
FWIW: Slot load optical drive, $24:

I am at work presently on a PeeCee.
My Mac is a 2008 cheese grator with about all the enhancments of its time. A little low on RAM as it has the most expensive that OWC sells.
One 23ish inch monitor.

I use an external optical BluRay drive with my iMac. It’s far easier to load and unload tha the Apple slot-loading and SLOW ‘super’drive.
Get the good optical drive and move on.
Did I mention the Apple drive is speed challenged?
