Thunderbolt hard drives, no deals?
#1
Looking for a 4 TB external drive, desktop 3.5 inch is fine. Would like Thunderbolt but 3 times more than USB 3.0 drives. Any deals out there?

What are you using it for? USB3 is likely as fast as TB for spinny disk drives.

There are almost no single-bay TB drive enclosures. What is the reason that you feel you should get Thunderbolt?

I expect you meant a 4 TB drive, yes?

What they said.

No platter based drive can exceed USB 3 speeds so getting a 4 TB tbolt does nothing.

If you want more speed from a platter drive you will need to build a 2-3 drive RAID 0.

Another vote for just buy the USB 3.0 drive, or did you get stuck with one of those Mac models with Thundercrap and no USB 3.0?

Hes referring to some 2012/13 macs with TBolt and USB 2.

In which case, you didnt mention what this drive was for, but if its just for backup, USB 2 more than enough.

Mostly because I have Macs with no more USB ports and unused Thunderbolt ports.
In this case it's a 2012 Mini with a Time Machine drive, USB card reader, Keyboard and a USB extention cable used for thumb drives. So the 4 USB ports are in use and the TB port is not used.

Maybe a USB hub for the Reader, keyboard and thumb drives? Or you could go nuts and get a TB hub or dock.
