Hey, idiot, I have two questions: Why does no one else look orange and why do you look orange outside?

A) Playing to his base

B) He's wrong. The cheap LEDs don't put out any red light. He'd probably look normal.

Ordinary LEDs make you look blue.

Sodium security lights make you look orange.

Why does he look orange in bright white sunlight?

...

Next time, maybe link to the mainstream news (NBC) story.

That BoingBoing page is filled with parody-stories.

I looked but it's hard to navigate an iPhone 4S with a lousy AT&T connection. I did ask myself: Should I really link to a site called "boingboing?"

It’s “OK” but you could do better when looking at news/politics. They aren’t terribly serious there.

Well, if they trade in ridiculous content, they'll be chock full of Trump stories.

Bless you for using a 4s! I still would if Verizon supported it. Att doesn't support the Vzw model, either.

Trump: Personal vanity so extreme he erroneously pushes federal policy that hurts the environment and creates higher energy costs. And he can't even apply the makeup correctly nor realize why it looks the way it does.

WaPo wrote:
The president’s skin tone, said makeup artist Jason Kelly, is more likely the result of artificial tanning and an overapplication of bronzer, a type of powder or cream designed to give a tanned look.

Kelly, 45, was the official makeup artist for the Republican National Convention held in Cleveland in 2016. When then-candidate Trump came into the makeup room, he already had his hair and makeup done, Kelly said, and was sporting a thick layer of bronzer. Kelly applied a layer of loose powder on Trump, but according to the makeup artist, Trump “came in, and he said he thinks he already looks pretty good.”

According to the New York Times, aides close to the president have reported similar experiences: Trump tends to prefer to do his makeup in private.

Kelly said it is generally recognized among makeup artists that Trump’s application of bronzer is atypical. “When I see him, I see a line of oxidized bronzer around his hairline,” Kelly said. “The application is like a kindergartner did it.

“Bronzer shouldn’t be applied from forehead to chin. It’s meant to contour the face,” he continued. “Putting it all over is just going to make you go orange.”

Sure, but they're surface "news" at best, which opens them up to either posting exaggerations bereft of context, or just snippets that don't support one view or another.

In my WaPo example, the paper apparently made the effort to reach out to one of the few people who would have direct knowledge of Trump's makeup regimen, and got him to explain why-and-how Trump does it, with an anecdote (and the result.) They also quoted a few photographers who simply explain how lighting color temp affects subjects.

All of that helps to better shed light, so to speak, on why his bizarre claim is what it is. More to the point, it also highlights what differentiates journalism from just posting headlines, which may or may not be a selling feature for potential readers (you can lead a horse to water, but ... )
