Gluing a rubber mat to painted metal?
#1
I've been using one of my rolling tool carts as a work stand more and more lately. I'd like to glue a rubber mat to the top of it to keep stuff from sliding all over the place. It is a lift up lid so at least some of the time gravity will be working against me. Not quite sure what to use to glue the mat down. It probably weights 15lbs. It is a heavy thick floor mat.

Rhonda beat me to it. The stuff for laminate counters should work fine. A tube of construction adhesive might be overkill.

Might want to test in a hidden area. Contact cement could compromise the paint, making the paint lose its grip on the metal underneath. Or not.

Tool cart paint is pretty tough stuff....
I'd be surprised if it came off; may even be some sort of powder coat.

Would you consider drilling the four corners and fastening it down that way with short bolts with washers?

Thought about it, but though the rubber might tear. I'd need at least a few in the center as well. I'm also worried about them scratching stuff too. I'd probably have to get something to cover the bolt heads.

Wonder why there are no options for different types of paint.

There are non-slip mats (like shelf paper) that would work without glue and easier to clean.
