Cigarettes . . .
#1
Wow, am I ever glad I quit smoking!

I was in the supermarket today and here in New Mexico, as of July 1, cigarettes are $7.00 a pack!!!!

Back in the day when I still smoked, they were $.25 a pack.

Boy, do I feel old (and glad I quit).

It all started with nicotine gum, I got addicted to it, then had to start smoking to kick the gum habit.

I had to stop 2 weeks ago for an oral surgery, and I have not smoked since. I really want one but have been using a patch which blunts the craving. Must...keep...going!

I smoked roll-ups, which cost me about $4 for a weeks worth- about 15-20 a day.

No cigarettes but an occasional cigar to celebrate a special occasion.

During WWI billions of cigarettes were shipped overseas as Army rations.

For free. Here ya go, soldier ... never know if tomorrow might be your last day on Earth.

July 1 Cigarette Tax Hikes
N.Y., Hawaii, N.M., S.C., Utah see increases on tobacco

WASHINGTON -- Five states implemented cigarette tax increases on July 1: New York, $1.60 increase to $4.35 per pack; Hawaii, 40 cents to $3 per pack; New Mexico, 75 cents to $1.66 per pack; South Carolina, 50 cents to 57 cents per pack; and Utah, $1 to $1.70 per pack, reported The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids...

A single pack of cigarettes now costs about $10 bucks in NY. More in NYC.

And NY now collects tax on cigarettes sold on Indian reservations so they're not much cheaper there.

As someone whose lungs rebel violently against cigarette smoke, this is one sin tax that I happily endorse.

Quit 25 years ago.

I was a fairly heavy smoker (about a pack and a half a day) and quit cold turkey back in '88. My reasoning was that I knew they were no good for me, and the price of a pack may even hit a dollar! ::o

I had tried to quit several times before 1988 with no luck. I finally put my mind to it and today, I can't believe I ever smoked.
