Quit in about 1973 - now being in a room with smokers is a real pain. Fortunately, now, in WA state it is illegal to smoke indoors in any public place.

My lovely wife smokes... keeps trying to quit. Smokes are $5 a pack in Ohio. Insane. Her habit costs more than anything else we buy on a monthly basis.
She's tried dam near everything to quit. She has quit five times- once for each pregnancy. And I'm an asthmatic. So she smokes outside or in a room with an exhaust fan.

Used to smoke camels or marlboro reds
could quit until stress would get me reaching for one. Quit what one might call cold turkey quite a while ago. Smell doesn't bother me but someone who smokes a lot and has the nicotine oozing out of their pores is gagging. mestatic lung cancer has done in several friends who never smoked even pot once in their lives. Had no desire to smoke as a teen or young adult and didn't. Started about 25 with cigars ...

The poll results are quite interesting.
I quit smoking in 1983; I started in high school even though I knew better. Lung cancer, heart disease or emphysema could never happen to me! When I was in basic training in 1978, people who smoked were given breaks to have a cigarette. If you didn't smoke, you had to remain in formation while the smokers got a break. This probably encouraged a few people to become smokers. "Smoke em if you've got em"

I haven't smoked in 30 years and when I did it was irregular. I do have a genuine Marlboro sweatshirt, logo and all, and I still wear it.

Smoked from roughly 20yo to 30yo. About a third of my life. Quit cold turkey about 2 and a half years ago on New Years day. I still get cravings sometimes, which is pretty scary
