a $10K Detroit home still makes more sense than a $50K vehicle.

Unless you can pay cash, you need to factor in the cost of hurricane insurance. With the way things are going, that could cost one several times the mortgage payment each month.

Amazing prices! We bought a Disney run Timeshare, the Disney Vacation Club, in '98 for $9K sold for over
$11K in '05. Used it numerous times and sold it for $1000 profit. The same 150 points we had is now going for about $9500 on the timeshare resell market. Ours was at Boardwalk inside Disney. I wish I had it back and was able to travel that far again. ![]()

You can easily find a condo in South Florida for $35k. The amount of inventory is massive. Don;t expect an ocean view or granite counters, but a perfectly livable 1 or 2 BR condo can be found in that price range.
Insurance is not bad, I am paying $1500 yr for a 3 bed house in Boca Raton, Taxes are not bad, service is excellent. South Florida has crazy amount of Fire stations, fast police and ambulance response. Garbage for $350 yr (part of the taxes) includes bulk pick up every Monday. There are some great deals down here
