I'm SO glad I didn't invite my friend to stay with me!

I've thought of asking my sister in law that question, but I've never been able to work up enough courage. I guess there are some things I just don't want to know badly enough.

No matter what the relationship, there will always be a Yin and a Yang.

That's a very "delicate" way of phrasing it, and I suspect it also sums it up pretty well. In spite of the fact each partner in a homosexual relationship is of the same gender, I imagine much of the attraction between two is still based to a degree on what are considered to be more typically male or female interests and activities, probably because that's consistent with the division of tasks required to maintain a household.

My sister in law is quite feminine and enjoys cooking, sewing, and "crafty" stuff. as well as nice jewelry and clothing; her partner, on the other hand, is quite the, um, handyman and assumes responsibility for many of the tasks around the house that would more commonly associated with being "man's work." She doesn't look masculine, nor does she have any particularly masculine characteristics, but she wouldn't be caught dead in a dress or skirt now that she's retired and doesn't have to maintain any appearance of femininity, and she never has liked jewelry or anything fussy.

You don't have to be a lesbian to relate to that. The thing I find unfathomable about drag queens is that they voluntarily wear clothing and shoes that I wouldn't wear unless someone threatened to kill a puppy in front of me. And I'm handier about things like putting up drywall than my SO.

True, but my point is there is balance in the relationship, whether it's in a very "traditional" heterosexual sense or not. In your case, there is a balance, but it just is a bit less traditional. Heck, I was the one who would always rather be outside working on some project while my husband was in the house cooking dinner. But there was still a balance, because he enjoyed the cooking and I didn't.
